Review: The Witch 2 – The Other One

The Witch: Part 2 - The Other One expands the mysterious world introduced in its predecessor, but instead of simply continuing Ja-yoon’s story, it shifts the focus to a new protagonist, deepening the franchise’s lore while raising even more questions. Directed by Park Hoon-jung, the sequel embraces a bigger scale, with more characters, more action, and a broader conspiracy at play. However, while it delivers thrilling moments, it also feels somewhat scattered compared to the tightly woven tension of the first film.

The Witch: Part 2 - The Other One

Review
Shin Si-ah makes her film debut as the unnamed girl, a seemingly innocent but immensely powerful subject who escapes from a secret lab. Unlike Ja-yoon’s gradual transformation in Part 1, this new protagonist feels enigmatic from the start—quiet, observant, and radiating an eerie calm that suggests she’s barely aware of her own destructive capabilities. Shin Si-ah’s performance is understated yet effective, making her presence both unsettling and captivating.

The film’s biggest strength lies in its action sequences. It takes everything that Part 1 did and amplifies it—brutal superhuman fights, telekinetic mayhem, and stylishly choreographed violence that feels straight out of a high-budget sci-fi thriller. The cinematography and visual effects enhance these moments, making every confrontation feel high-stakes and intense.

However, where The Witch: Part 1 was laser-focused on Ja-yoon’s personal journey, Part 2 feels more like a setup for an even larger story. It introduces multiple factions—mercenaries, scientists, and other superpowered individuals—all seemingly fighting for control, but their motivations often feel underdeveloped. The constant shift between different character perspectives makes the film feel overcrowded at times, leaving some subplots underexplored.

Despite its occasional narrative messiness, the film succeeds in expanding the Witch universe with a bigger world, higher stakes, and a looming sense that something much more dangerous is on the horizon. While it doesn’t have the same emotional depth or shocking impact as The Subversion, it lays the groundwork for an explosive third chapter. Fans of the first film will find plenty to enjoy, but those expecting clear answers might leave with even more mysteries to unravel.
